Eamonn Bannon
Midfielder/Winger

United Debut: v. Raith Rovers (H) LC 31/10/79.

Signed From: Chelsea for £165,000 30/10/79.

Transferred to: Hearts for £225,000, 13/7/88.

Within 2 months of signing from Chelsea for a then record club transfer fee of £165,000, Bannon earned his first Scotland cap - becoming only the 3rd United player to play for Scotland - and won his first winners medal as United won their first ever major trophy, beating Aberdeen in the League Cup Final at Dens. Involved in all of United's successes at home and in Europe in the 80's, Bannon scored one of the best goals ever seen at Tannadice in the 5-0 win against Borussia Moenchengladbach in 1981, and of course that final decisive goal that won United the League at Dens in 1983. A regular scorer for United and penalty taker for 5 years, his final game for United was the 1988 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic, and he returned to his first club Hearts along with Iain Ferguson the following season after 9 years at Tannadice.
