Son of Aberdeen and Manchester United legend Martin Buchan, Jamie Buchan was signed from Aberdeen by manager Paul Sturrock before the start of the 2000/01 season and made his debut in the opening game of the season against Celtic at Tannadice. After Sturrock's resignation just two games into the season, Buchan remained in the team under Alex Smith, making 40 appearances in his first season as United fought of St Mirren in a relegation battle. He scored a vital winner in a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Tannadice in the run up to the end of the season, this being his only goal for United. Buchan had been used at full back and in midfield, but found it hard to hold down a place the following season, making only 7 appearances before being freed near the end of the 2001/02 season and would later sign for Partick Thistle. |
