Alan Combe
Goalkeeper

United Debut: v Dundee (H) 0-1 22/11/98.

Signed From: St Mirren 17/6/98.

Transferred to: Bradford City 4/6/03.

Signed by manager Tommy McLean after the departure of Ally Maxwell, Combe made his debut half way through the 1998/99 season after Paul Sturrock had taken over as manager. He remained in goal for the next 7 matches before Sieb Dykstra came back in after the New Year. After Dykstra had decided to leave at the end of the season, Sturrock gave Combe his chance in the last 4 games of the season. The following season Combe missed only one match as United dropped from 3rd place to struggle against relegation and the loss of Billy Dodds. He remained in goal as United's bad form and bad luck continued under Alex Smith, and was controversially sent off after a 1-0 defeat at Easter Road. After losing his place to Paul Gallacher, it took Combe 2 years to get a recall to the first team, as new manager Ian McCall gave him his chance. Combe left for Bradford City, a club he had spent some time on loan at, after his contract ran out at the end of the 2003/04 season.
