Paddy Connolly
Forward

United Debut: v. Hearts (A) 0-0 6/5/89.

Signed From: Hamilton Thistle 2/8/86.

Transferred to: Airdrieonians £150,000 30/3/96.

Connolly made his way into the first team at the end of the 1988-89 season, and scored both his first goals for the club in a 2-0 win over Celtic the following season. Connolly saved United's blushes in 1991 when he scored the last gasp equaliser at Bayview against East Fife at the start of United's run to the Scottish Cup Final. Missed most of the 1991/92 season through injury, but had probably his best season in 1992/93, when he finished as United's top scorer with 19 goals, but the one best remembered was "the goal that never was" against Partick Thistle when referee Les Mottram waved play on after Connolly's strike had hit the back of the goal and bounced back out! Played in the first two rounds of the successful Scottish Cup run in 1994. Was sold to Airdrie towards the end of United's season in the 1st Division.
