Goalkeeper

United Debut: v. Motherwell (A) 2-4 April 1962.

Signed From: Butterburn YC 9/8/61.

Transferred to: North Shore United, New Zealand 1974.

Davie was signed along with Don Mackay as replacements for the departing keepers Ugolini and Brown, and made his debut at the age of 16 at the end of the 1961/62 season. The No.1 jersey went back and forth between Davie and Mackay for the next 6 years, but Davie became the first choice keeper as United qualified for Europe for the first time, and he played in all four matches against Barcelona and Juventus. After a dip in form, Davie became the third choice keeper behind Mackay and the emerging Hamish McAlpine and left for Luton Town in 1968. Jim McLean brought Davie back to Tannadice in 1972 and he played in United's first ever Scottish Cup Final in 1974. Emegrated to New Zealand soon after, and became a New Zealand internationalist.
