Ferguson scored the winner for Rangers against United in the League Cup Final in 1984, and came to Tannadice two seasons later to replace the departed Davie Dodds. An out and out goal-scorer, "Fergie" was a major influence in one of United's best ever seasons in 1986/87, scoring 16 League goals, 5 goals in the League Cup, 5 goals on the way to the Scottish Cup Final, the second goal in that famous win at the Nou Camp and the first of the two goals in the Semi-Final in Germany that took United to the UEFA Cup Final. Ferguson was United's top scorer for the two seasons he was at the club, and helped United to yet another Scottish Cup Final in 1988, scoring the winner against Aberdeen in the Semi-Final. He left for Hearts with Eamonn Bannon soon after that final. |
