United Debut: v Rangers (H) 4-0 2/2/00.

Signed From: Aberdeen £150,000 19/1/00.

Transferred to: Free Transfer 7/3/03.

Hamilton started his career with Dundee, and after spells at Hearts and Aberdeen he was brought to Tannadice by manager Paul Sturrock for £150,000 half way through the 1999/2000 season after the departure of Billy Dodds. In only his second appearance for United, Hamilton scored twice as United fought back from 2 goals down to prevent a shock Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Alloa Athletic, and he scored again in the 4-0 win in the replay at Tannadice. Hamilton only managed 2 goals out of 25 matches as United fought relegation during the 2000/01 season, but notched 6 goals the following season, including a last minute equaliser against Dundee in the opening game of the season at Tannadice, and 2 goals in a 3-1 home win over Hibs. After scoring 5 goals during the 2002/03 season, Hamilton was released by the club after the arrival of Ian McCall as manager, but teamed up again with Alex Smith at Ross County at the start of the 2003/04 season.
