United Debut: v Hamilton A (A) 1-2 LC 23/8/89.

Signed From: Jujita (Japan) £65,000 1/7/89.

Transferred to: Martimo (Portugal) 23/8/90.

Jim McLean signed Hinds before the 1989/90 campaign, bringing the Jamaican born player to Britain after a spell with Japanese club Jujita FC. He played in Paul Sturrock's testimonial match against Real Sociedad but missed the first three games of the season as he worked on his fitness. Hinds scored a late consolation goal on his debut as United were knocked out of the League Cup by 1st Division Hamilton Accies at Douglas Park, and scored again in a 3-1 win over Glentoran away from home in the UEFA Cup. But that was the end of his goals for United and he played in a total of 18 goals during the season. After failing to make any sort of impact on the United first team, Hinds was eventually moved on to Portuguese team Martimo at the start of the following season.
