Siggi Jonsson
Midfielder

United Debut: v Celtic (A) 0-4 22/11/97.

Signed From: Arkranes 24/11/97.

Transferred to: Arkranes May 2000..

Jonsson became the first Icelandic player to play for United when he appeared as a trialist against Celtic at Parkhead in November 1997, and Tommy McLean signed the ex-Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder just days later. Jonsson was a classy player but spent most of his time at United on the sidelines due to persistent injury problems. In his first season he only appeared 18 times, but was a regular in the team as they survived an end of season relegation battle with Hibs. His appearances were reduced to 18 again the following season, but he scored his one and only goal for the club in a 2-2 draw with Motherwell and appeared in a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic at Ibrox. Again injury hampered the player's appearances during the 1998/99 season and after another 16 games he returned to Iceland to play for his old club Arkranes.
