Frank Kopel
Defender

United Debut: v Morton (H) 2-1 29/1/72.

Signed From: Blackburn Rovers 1/1/72.

Transferred to: Arbroath as Player/Coach 1/2/82.

After spells at Manchester United (where he was on the substitutes' bench during their successful European Cup run in 1968) and Blackburn Rovers, Frank Kopel became Jim McLean's first signing for Dundee United in 1972 and was a regular at left-back throughout the 70's, from the Scottish Cup Final in 1974, through the two League Cup wins in 1979 and 1980, to the Scottish Cup Final in 1981. A solid dependable defender who made the number 3 jersey his own, Frank never scored many goals, but scored the winner against Celtic at Tannadice in 1978 and scored a cracker against Anderlecht in 1979 that took United through to the next round of the UEFA Cup on away goals. Left Tannadice in 1982 for a player/coach role at Arbroath.
