Jim Lauchlan
Defender

United Debut: v. Hibernian (H) 0-1 28/10/00.

Signed From: Kilmarnock £100,000 26/10/00.

Transferred to: Freed May 2003.

After a terrible start to the 2000/01 season, new manager Alex Smith bought Lauchlan from Kilmarnock to partner Jason de Vos in the centre of defence, and he missed only three games until the end of the season. The two powerful centre backs eventually turned things around as the team lost only 3 League matches during the second half of the season and reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup . Lauchlan scored the winner in a 3-2 win over Dundee at Dens that season and played in the unforgettable 3-2 comeback against St Johnstone that kept United in the Premier League. Lauchlan missed only 5 matches the following season, as United stayed clear of the relegation battle for the first time in 4 years. After a dip in form during the 2002/03 season, Lauchlan eventually lost his place after being sent off in the League Cup semi-final against Celtic and was freed at the end of the season, signing for Livingston a couple of months later.
