McCunnie was handed
his first ever start for United by Alex Smith at the age of 17, making
his debut in the controversial 1-0 defeat at Easter Road where Russell
Latapy scored a late penalty for Hibs. He went on to miss only one game
between then and the end of the season, playing 19 times, including an
appearance at Hampden against Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
During the 2001/02 season McCunnie missed only a handful of matches right
through to March, where a dip in form saw him replaced by another promising
full-back, Stuart Duff, for the last 6 matches. McCunnie failed to rediscover
the form that made him one of the most promising youngsters in Scottish
football, and after just 14 appearances during the 2002/03 season, he
was involved in a player swap deal that brought Tony Bullock to Tannadice,
with McCunnie and David Winters heading to Dingwall. |
