Jim McInally
Midfielder

United Debut: v. Hamilton (A) 5-1 20/9/86.

Signed From: Coventry City £140,000* 16/5/86.

Transferred to: Dundee as Player/Coach, 13/6/97.

McInally joined United from Coventry City in 1986, *in a joint transfer with fellow midfielder Dave Bowman, and in his first season played an important role in taking the club to the UEFA Cup Final. He missed only a handful of games in each of the following 7 seasons, and grabbed a couple of goals each year, with an incredible knack of scoring against Aberdeen! A tough tackling midfielder who was also good at going forward, he played a major part in the Scottish Cup run in 1994, scoring the goal against Aberdeen in the Semi-Final replay to take United to the Final. After the club were relegated the following season, he left for Starks Park in 1995, but returned a year later as Tommy McLean's first signing to add some bite in midfield, before going "across the road" to a coaching position the following year.
