The ex-Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon striker was signed by Jim McLean before the start of the 1988/89 season, and scored on his United debut in a 3-1 win over St Mirren at Love Street in the League Cup after coming on as a substitute. He also scored three days later in a 2-2 draw with Aberdeen at Tannadice, and scored the only goal over two legs against Floriana in the UEFA Cup to take United through to the next round. Meade also scored the winner over Dundee in a 2-1 Scottish Cup win at Dens Park, as well as scoring against the Dark Blues in a 2-0 League win at Tannadice. With poor fitness keeping the striker out of the starting eleven for much of the season, Meade was sold on to Luton Town after only 8 months at Tannadice, but had managed to score in all four competitions that United had been involved in that season.
