Narey was one of the first of Jim McLean's youngsters to break into the first team. His partnership with Paul Hegarty was the backbone to United's successes in the 80's, from the back to back League Cup wins in 1979 and 1980, to all the glory nights in Europe, and both were ever-present during the League Championship in 1983. Narey holds the record for the most appearances for the club and became the first ever United player to win a Full International Cap for Scotland and deserved a lot more than his 35 Caps. Will always be remembered by football fans in Scotland for his "Brazilian-style" goal against Brazil. Still at the club when United finally won the Scottish Cup in 1994, Narey was offered a coaching job but, wishing to carry on playing, he left for Raith Rovers where he won his third League Cup Winners' Medal in 1995.
