Mixu was only 20 years old when he became the first of Jim McLean's foreign signings in the late 80's, a virtual unknown when he was brought across from Finland, and scored on his debut at Tannadice against St Mirren. By the end of his first season in Scotland he was involved in the 1988 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic and was second top scorer behind Iain Ferguson with 11 goals. A big, powerful centre-forward who scored some excellent goals, he finished as United's top scorer for the next two seasons, and as a regular penalty taker he very rarely missed. Mixu was pushed out onto the left wing after the emergence of Christian Dailly and Duncan Ferguson and was eventually transferred to Aberdeen in 1992 and went on to play in the English Premiership with Bolton Wanderers.
