Signed by his old Partizan Belgrade manager Ivan Golac for a then club record transfer fee, Petric's class and skill was evident from the moment he made his debut on a cold afternoon at Fir Park. An immense centre-half who could drift past players with the ball at his feet from his own box to the other, Petric was one of the main reasons United finally won the Scottish Cup in 1994, as his solid partnership with Brian Welsh stopped anything Rangers threw at them. Even though he only scored a handful of goals for United, he was one of the best free-kick takers ever seen at Tannadice. Was less effective the following season as United were relegated, and left for Ibrox the following season, but never rediscovered his form of the Cup winning season.
