Ian Redford
Midfielder

United Debut: v. Aberdeen (H) 1-1 17/8/85.

Signed From: Rangers £70,000 15/8/85.

Transferred to: Ipswich Town £200,000 14/11/88.

Before joining United, Redford had spent 6 seasons with Rangers where he won a Scottish Cup Winners medal and two League Cup winners medals - all in finals against United! A skillful midfielder who regularly scored from free-kicks and penalties, Redford was a major player during the 1986/87 season, scoring the late winner at Ibrox in a 3-2 victory in 1986 (after United had been 2-0 down at half time), and scored 3 goals during United's UEFA Cup run, including that memorable last minute goal against Borussia in Germany that guaranteed the clubs place in the final. Redford was called up to the Scotland Squad but never won that deserved cap. Redford missed parts of the following two seasons due to injury, but still popped up with some important goals, before heading south for Ipswich Town in 1989.
