John Reilly
Forward

United Debut: v East Fife (H) LC 20/8/80.

Signed From: Strathtay 31/3/79.

Transferred to: Motherwell Aug 1985.

Reilly broke into the first team in 1981, and two years later was involved in United's League Championship winning season, mainly as a substitute for Paul Sturrock, scoring 7 goals - 2 of them in the memorable 7-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock at Tannadice. Always seemed to pop up with an equaliser when United were struggling! Reilly played in two of United's matches in their European Cup run in 1983/84, and scored in the first round win over Hamrun Spartans. Was never able to break the Sturrock/Dodds partnership and was transferred to Tommy McLean's Motherwell in 1985 but had to give up playing at the age of 24 due to injury. Made a comeback and spent the remainder of his career in Fife for Dunfermline, then East Fife before becoming Cowdenbeath manager in 1993.
