Scott Thomson
Goalkeeper

United Debut: v Hibernian (H) 2-1 2/5/87.

Signed From: Hutchison Vale 1984.

Transferred to: Forfar Athletic 25/6/91.

After the departure of Hamish McAlpine, Scott Thomson became second choice keeper behind Billy Thomson in season 1986/87, but faced competition from new signing Alan Main. Thomson made his debut at the tail end of that season, as Jim McLean rested many first team players in the lead up to the Scottish Cup and UEFA Cup Finals. Thomson missed out as Main replaced Billy Thomson for 10 matches during the following season, and in 1988/89 he played in only one match, against Hibs at Easter Road. At the start of the 1989/90 season Billy Thomson was refusing to sign a new contract, so Scott Thomson was given his chance and started the season as first choice keeper. After 3 matches, including a disastrous Dundee Derby at Dens in which United were beaten 4-3, Scott lost his place and never made it into the first team again. Paul Hegarty took Scott to Forfar, before he joined Raith Rovers and played in their League Cup winning team of 1994.
