Freddie Van Der Hoorn
Defender

United Debut: v. Motherwell (H) 1-1 12/8/89.

Signed From: BVV Den Bosch £200,000 2/8/89.

Transferred to: Eendracht Aalst June 1994..

Freddy joined United at the start of the 1989/90 season and became an instant hit with the fans. Making his first appearance in Paul Sturrock's Testimonial against Real Sociedad before the start of the 1989/90 season, Freddy replaced the departing Paul Hegarty in the heart of United's defence, and missed only 13 games in his first 3 seasons with United, forming partnerships with Dave Narey and Miodrag Krivokapic. Freddy scored 5 goals during his time at Tannadice, twice against Celtic and twice against Dunfermline, the other coming in a 3-1 League Cup win over Partick Thistle. Freddy was a hard and sometimes flamboyant player, once clearing a ball from the 6 yard box with a flying-overhead backheel kick! Freddy made a couple of appearances in United's run to the successful 1994 Scottish Cup Final, but fell out of favour with manager Ivan Golac and returned home soon after.
