Brian Welsh
Defender

United Debut: v. Hearts (A) 1-1 11/5/87.

Signed From: Tynecastle BC 24/6/85.

Transferred to: Hibs £200,000 6/8/96.

Made his debut at the end of the famous 1986/87 season, but only played a game a season until the end of the 1989/90 season when he replaced the injured Maurice Malpas for a few games. Eventually became a regular centre-half in 1993/94 and his partnership with Gordan Petric played a large part in United's Scottish Cup success that season. Scored two of United's most important goals in recent years, with his last minute equaliser against Aberdeen in the Semi-Final of the Scottish Cup in 1994, and another last gasp equaliser in the Play-Off against Partick Thistle helped to get United back into the Premier League after a season in the First Division. At the start of the following season, Welshie left for Hibs after a contract dispute, but like his old partner Petric, never rediscovered the form that made him a Cup winner in 1994.
