Lennart Wing
Defender

United Debut: v. St Mirren (H) 2-0 23/1/65.

Signed From: Orgryte 19/1/65.

Transferred to: Orgryte 22/4/67.

Wing and fellow countryman Orjan Persson were spotted by Jerry Kerr whilst playing for Orgryte against Dunfermline at East End Park in a Fairs Cup match, and he became the fourth member of the Scandinavian invasion of Tannadice. As a part-time player in Sweden, Wing worked as a fireman and was given a 1 year leave of absence - but he wore the no. 6 jersey at Tannadice for nearly 3 years. United's penalty taker for a while, Wing scored from the spot in the 5-0 massacre of Dundee in 1965. A rugged, no nonsence defender, who's experience was valuable to United's first ever venture into European football, Wing (along with Persson) became the first United player ever to be capped by his country. The first of the Scandinavian's to leave, Wing went back to Sweden in 1967 when an extension to his leave of absence was refused.
