The third of Tommy McLean's Scandinavian invasion, Zetterlund joined United a week after Kjell Olofsson and Erik Pedersen, and only missed one game in United's midfield from his debut at Fir Park until the end of the season. Zetterlund's only goal that season was at Fir Park in a 1-1 draw, and guaranteed United 3rd place in the League and qualification for the UEFA Cup. He scored 4 goals the following season, the first being a last minute equaliser against Hibs in the League Cup, another in a fantastic 5-0 hammering of Aberdeen at Tannadice, another was the eventual winner over Inverness CT in a closely fought Scottish Cup replay, and the fourth against Rangers in the final game of the season. Zetterlund remained in midfield after Paul Sturrock took over as manager in 1998-99, but fell out of favour and returned to Orebro. A young Zetterlund can be seen in the 1986/87 UEFA Cup Final programme, playing for Gothenburg.
